And some food. You wonder if he died from exposure or from lack of food? He was not reported missing, so evidently he did not leave a plan with anyone, or have regular check in calls to family or friends.

At the very least, have an ex to whom you owe money.
You WILL be found, I guarantee.

The lack of knowledge of tarrain got him. Unless he was disabled and could not walk. He was only 3 miles from a town. He either could not walk that distance of did not know the location of the town.

He had everything he needed and was used to living the life.

He was stuck in mid Feb and did not run out of food for a month!

He lasted another month without food!

If you amend "Must be able to clean fish up to 70 pounds & help butcher Moose" to "Must like grilled Alaskan salmon and not be afraid of petting a Moose", you just might get lucky.
And there's that little matter of the outhouse you gotta factor in.

Take it from an old guy that has been married longer than he has not. There is only ONE requirement for a happy marriage and that requirement is on the guy. You have to be able to say "Yes, ma'am"...... a lot.

As for the goober that got himself dead. Nature's way of natural selection.

"He who fights and hides under the bed will fight again and not be dead." I think that's how it goes anyway.

He had plenty of cash: $5,000 was found with his body

Knowledge without experience is just information

there must be some saying similar to the above in regards to " money in the bush "

there are two types of wild food enthusiasts,
one picks for enjoyment of adding something to a meal,
and the second is the person who lives mostly on ( wild ) edibles

This thread has me questioning the wisdom of starting my diet this morning.

Looking at the Height/weight chart, the body fat index, the fat burning profile and my calorie intake, then eliminating the last for March, April and part of May, then haulting all physical activity other than gathering wood, I have come to the realization that if I had been with this old guy I would just now be closing in on my recommended weight goal.

As far as the money in the bush thing. Quite right, it will not save you. But $5,000 will buy a roof over your head in a cheap motel for the two or three bad months of winter.

Plus, at 68 this old guy had some Social Security money comming in every month. I bet there are checks waiting for him in a PObox right now. Had he been willing to part with a few of those $$$ he would still be alive.

This may be a case of death by stingy.

What is your best survival tool in the Cascades? Motel 6!

Oh, real nice. The poor guy was on his way to buy $5000 worth of survival gear. Go ahead and mock the dead. Some guys, I tell ya.

Yes, and it most likely involves Beavers, but we shall not go there. Hehehehehe

However he may have been on his way to the Great Alaska Bush & Beaver Emporium. http://akbushcompany.com/

hmm, imma go build on the dam now, never mind the bush. might as well bring the smokes, and some coffee too.
It bothers me how someone with new shoes can come up to me asking for money.
