I Wonder Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink what ever comes out?"
Very nice!
For a few seconds, I thought it was a -huge- trunk placed in the middle of your house. XD
I think you've got a great start on it. Wood is like metal and stone knives. Something lives inside and it's up to you to bring it out. Sometimes what we think is inside and what is really there are two different things, though. Broken blades attest to that.

Very cool. I started on a wood spirit the other day as sort of a therapy to regain strength in my hand.
Not bad for the first time keep after it and it will come
Hope for the best but expect the worst and you will never be dissapointed
You have a good start there, after a while you are hooked and there will be more carving chisels in your house than there is knives!
Survival is not about surviving AGAINST the nature. It's about surviving WITH the nature.
You can't go in to nature, nature is not a place or an object. Nature just is. You are living it.
Believe it or not I carved that with the blade on my Gerber suspension. I d t have a carving knife "yet".

Sand that now with sandpaper and smooth out the cuts and your spirit will raise right up out of the wood. Not yours but the wood spirit, which is yours but not the same as...you know what I mean.

You could try that or a box cutter. You can't gouge as deep with a razor blade but you can shave wood with it pretty easily (no pun intended).
