There aren't many options to the concept of the hottest peppers you can grow. Each species of pepper has a certain hot to it. I've eaten things hotter than jalapeno's before and often eat them because the local restaurants put them in their salads whole.

Also, this scale is no longer correct because there is a hotter pepper than the naga jolokia. The Naga Viper, which is about 1.3 million on the scale.

Yep, thats the Naga Viper that isn't on the list. The funny part is that as usual, the article is awful when it comes to a lot of info. Why would you use a pepper at 1.3 scolville as a weapon when standard pepper spray is "hotter".

Now, interesting facts about capsaicin. Capsaicin is what makes peppers hot. It is most concentrated in the seeds and younger peppers are hotter than older ones. Capsaicin is alcohol soluable, which leads to a lot of fun. You can make hot alcohols. I have a friend who makes hot rum to cook with. Not only can you cook with it, it is easy to turn into a weapon. Since this is a survival forum, capsaicin is easily harvested and concentrated. As stated, it is alcohol soluable, so letting peppers stand in alcohol with cause the capsaicin to leach dissolve into it. Repeat this a few times with weak peppers and you eventually have a very hot alcohol. Simmer the alcohol over low heat to reduce it and you have an extremely concentrated liquid fire. From here, you can mix in various other irritants, put in a spray bottle, and pressurize. Instant pepper spray.

    Yes, Chilli Vodka good.

There is also evidence that Capsaicin can make a good topical antinflammatory and painkiller.

This info is a bit old.

Hungarian Wax Peppers are the hottest I've grown. The worst part about growing hot peppers is cleaning them. I've found that gloves are an absolute must. If you have the tiniest crack in a cuticle or on your hand you will be in agony in seconds. I'm also of the opinion that a respirator should be worn. I haven't worn one yet but you absolutely can not breath when you start cleaning. I don't know if the capsaicin becomes an aerosol as you cut into a pepper or what happens but the air around your work is quite unbreathable.

I think the hottest I've grown have been the Thai Dragons (bird's eye). They come in around 100,000 sco.
