    Default Corn Cob Knife

I went to a knife club meeting tonight. I thought this was a pretty unique handle - a resin infused corn cob.

    How is it processed ?

I have seen some knives from the 20's & 30's with similar handles, most were brass sub hilts....way looks very cool.

it can be done much like the stabilization of wood, or vacuum bagging in resin composite building.

    that's a purdy knife crash.

Canid's description is pretty close to how this was processed. Loosely wrapped in aluminum foil, placed in cylinder a little bigger than the corn cob, fill cylinder with resin, place in vacuum chamber, draw vacuum and hold for a couple of hours. When hardened, remove from cylinder - the foil makes the excess outside the foil come off relatively easy, then sand.

That is pretty cool and I'm sure glad to see it works...a guy ordered a knife from me and asked me to make the handle from pheasant feathers and beaks. I've ordered jewelry resin. I am really wondering how this is going to come out!

Cool knife all around. Handle looks like snakeskin.
(On a side note...I heard the corn cobs were used as TP. Who knew?)

Oh, well, yuck. I guess the up side is no one would want to borrow your knife.

That is a cool knife, Crash. You knife guys sure think out of the box. What's next, feathers and beaks?

Great knife. Nice outside the box thinking. I've seen some with chain that look really cool.

Crash, That looks GREAT! Good job. The Pine cone thing should be interesting. Looking forward to that. Thanks for sharing.
