    Default A garden experiment

Water is too expensive here for a traditional garden,,, we have lots of trees that are watered by a timed system,, I was thinking of planting some veggies in the tree wells ? Maybe some squash and water melon,,,, Hmm,, I wonder if tomatoes would grow there and climb up lower branches ? do you think the trees will choke them out ? have pine , maple, mulberry and locust trees to name a few...

you need to plant out of the drip ring of the tree if possible, and on the south side, or at least the southeast, to provide as much sunlight as possible. The fella that worked for me before had his garden all amongst the woods around his house and they did quite well. I think it's totally doable and worth a try.

None of the plants you named have weepings or foliage that are toxic to other plants, that I'm aware of. Some like Chinese Tallowtree only get a fair advantage over lower plants by being toxic, so you might want to research that a little further, there are a few.

    Go for it!!
