You really need to ask more specific questions. General info can easily be found via google.

I suspect we have a kid, not that that's a bad thing, just asking a lot of questions. I've PM'd him.

Solar energy is our oldest form of energy. You can even say that all our other forms are just rebranded solar. Wind comes from solar energy. Fossil fuels come from plants that obtained their energy from solar. Hydro power comes from water that has been moved to a higher location through solar power. Fission fuel comes from heavy elements that came from exploding stars. Did you know that solar energy is radiation from a nuclear explosion? Anyways, solar energy is a pretty broad topic. You will need to do a lot of research and decide what you want it to do.

Then double that, plus 5k for about a 1700 watt system stand alone, (batteries) system or about 2500w grid tied system.
Note: thats about $1000 bucks per watt.

Look on the Backwoods Home Magazine website, www.backwoodshome.com, and review articles by Jeff Yago. He's an electrical engineer and wrote many articles detailing how to build a solar electric system, how to size it, etc. He writes in some technical detail, gives formulas and so on, but does so in an easy to understand way.
Wherefore, let us be thankful that there are still thousands of cool, green nooks beside crystal springs, where the weary soul may hide for a time, away from debts, duns and deviltries, and a while commune with nature in her undress. ~ George W. “Nessmuk” Sears ~
