    if you're going to try building up with stick welding or such then shoot for 1/4 inch minimum. if you weld on a strip for an edge [as in forge welding], then you can easily have more width, for a longer wearing edge.

    wouldn't know how to handle welding rod for heat treatment.

    i'm about as green a welder as one can be.

    So, you mean forge welding...maybe some 1095 to the edge. I can't say it won't work never tried it, probably would. Rebel I can send you a .250" strip if you wanna try it.
    Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

    LOL. It feels like the rules keep getting changed. I'm gonna weld a bead of 10-something to the edge.

    Default Trying something new...

    I welded a bead on both sides of the edge. Heated it and beat it into the RR spike. Then, did a little grinding. Attachment 6521Attachment 6522Attachment 6523

    The pics got of order. I'm sure you can figure it out.
