    Default berry rake

A few years ago I made a berry rake for harvesting blueberries. I have often wondered about this method. There still seems to be a lot of sorting after picking although I must admit it works well but I get leaves and green berries too. Any berry raking advise?

Just a guess, the leaves might float when you wash the berries. If they do you can cover them with enough water and skim off the leaves that may help. The green berries would need to be sorted by hand.

Nice rake,...... advice, watch out for ticks.........
Brings me back to the home country in central WI, used to pick them every year...by hand.

Soil in SE/SW WI doesn't support too many acid loving plants.

Can't offer any advice, as it seems that my brother and I were the berry rakes anytime our Grandmother needed some for another recipe. Well done on the construction of it though.

When I was in Maine, I simply bought a berry rake. Washing should float most of the leaves away. the green berries you will have to hand pick out.

I float my Autumn olives in a 5 gallon bucket. Most of the defunct berries, leaves, twigs, and bugs float making it easy to skim them off. I'm not sure how well that would work for blueberries though.

I have tried the float method, using water and now I pick them by hand, seems simpler to me. that is a nice looking rake though, looks nice and strong.
