Thread: Small livestock for town dweller

Default Small livestock for town dweller

I live in a small city that has fairly strict codes for animals. I've already talked to town officials about what I could keep for animals and outside of a few rabbits I call pets I have few options for raising meat or eggs. I have thought about guinie pigs as they are popular food items in Peru, Chile and Argentina. Not sure about what kind of birds I could keep and still stay under the code enforcement radar. Chickens are out of the question so I've been told but maybe doves or pigeons or something along those lines. What would some of you folks recommend.

    How bout Quail.
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

Pen raised Bantam chickens and homeing pigeons are do'able in the Big City..
I've done it successfully, and fish is do'able if you can manage a 250 or 300
gallon tank...say one of those big square ones used in agriculture..I use them
in my Aquaponics operation, presently......................................... ...BH51.

hmm, I think within city limits doves/pigeons would be acceptable. I would still check with your local laws to avoid any trouble.
