Looks like you are looking at Admiral Steel. I haven't purchased from them, but have heard good things. Find out what shipping costs are. Also - you may want to look at their 1080, 1095 and 5160 (not sure if they sell the 5160 in shorter lengths). These steels are fairly easy to work with and heat treat. Your heat treat process is very important for your knife performance.

I dont care for either of those steels now that I have made several knives out of both. The 8670M that Admiral sells doesnt HT like real L-6 does. It works up like L-6, even breaks scale like L-6 when it's quenched but doesnt seem to harden like it. I sent a test knife made from it to Klkak and he hasnt been that impressed with the quality of the metal. I also sent one made from Admiral's alternative to 5160 (9260) and he has been abusing that one and it has been taking it very well.

Looks like Flatground.com to me. That seems a little high for what I paid for O-1. Don't know about the other...sorry. I used 1/8" thick, 3/16" thick and prices were about the same as those you're showing for thinner stock....of course it as been several months since I ordered anything, and prices may have risen more.

Try Jeff Carlisle of Swain's Spring Service in Great Falls MT, he can get you most any steel you need for making knives.

If you want to know if it is a good price, check it with McMaster-Carr.
