Default Two Suns and No Night

Betelgeuse, one of the night sky's brightest stars, is losing mass, indicating it is collapsing. It could run out of fuel and go super-nova at any time. When that happens, for at least a few weeks, we'd see a second sun, Carter says. There may also be no night during that timeframe.

We may save a bit on electricity. As with all other cosmic events, "any time" and "very soon" could mean when my great-great-great-great-great grandchildren are in their retirement years.

    I'm with crash! LOL

BTW....if it's 1,300 light-years away, it could have gone super-nova 1,299 years ago and we just haven't seen it yet.

If he got it up to the speed of light and turned on his headlights, would they work?

Not according to einstein. The light would never be able to leave the light housing since the vehicle is moving just as fast...

If we were on the side of the sun opposite beetlegeuse it would still be dark at night, right? so it really depends on if/when it does... time of year, which side of the galaxy, etc.

how will it affect our ionosphere, magnetosphere, and what about the gamma radiation?

and 2D is right. if it's 1300 light yrs away, and we are just now seeing the light getting dimmer, it may have already supernova'ed.. we just haven't seen it yet.

    science is cool.
