    Default Handi Shorty

12ga I picked up from my Father the other day. Really was worse for wear. Barrel was really messed-up at the end (Looks like it may have got runned over).
Cut it back to 18-1/2". Drilled and tapped a hole for the front bead sight. Fashioned the bead out of a brass screw. Squeezed and peened the slot over and then filed it into a bead. Works well and is just the thing I was looking for to keep at my trailer.

Looks like a good job and will make a fine extra to have around.

Here is a tip. When you cut a tapered barrel and install a new bead you are going "up" the taper, which is like raising your front sight. Usually your point of aim will be well above the point of impact.

I learned this the hard way when I grabbed a newly sawed down 20 ga and wound up shooting 2 feet above a wild dog in the barn lot a few back.

Go out a pop a few shells just to see how close you still are.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

I'm glad you rescued the poor little thing.
My old short barreled Handi, (should say Pardner) was purchased as a slug gun, with peep sights and will set you back with a 1 oz slug.
Works good as a grouse gun w/#8's as well.
    Not a stop sign gun.
    Nice job.

Guess I am probably the only person that doesn't use the bead on an 18" barrel, seems I just just look down the thing. This shows when I shoot a side by side, seems I don't do so well with one.

Nice job on a nice H&R. Love those single shots. I'm working a 12 and also a 20 into "truck guns".

Remember the hole in the stock hold 4, 2-3/4" shells and a match box under the recoil pad.
