Default Hi from Western North Carolina...

Hi all... Joined about a week or so ago and have been lurking... Finally got the time to do the introduction. I love this forum and all the info all of you have provided. Thanks.

    Age: 43
    Gender: Male.

Geographic Location: South Asheville (Arden), North Carolina. Raised in Black Mountain/Swannanoa area. Have lived in Anaheim, Ca... Fort Worth, Tx... Greenville, SC, Waynesville, NC and Raleigh, NC.

Occupation: Freelance Artist (Feast or famine, LoL): Comic Books, Paintings, Pen & Ink, Covers and illustration and Graphic Design; Served for 8 months in the Army (Infantry/Airborne until an injury forced an honorable discharge.

Education: H.S. Diploma, 3 year Biblical Theology degree, A.A. Degree Commercial Art.

Prior Relevant Training: Some military training, emergency first aid, CPR training, firearms (Primarily rifles and shotguns), Archery (recurve and composite bow, woodworking and carpentry.)

Nature Prior Experience: Mostly mountain and forest terrain (after all born and raised in the mountains of NC), Camping and hunting (Several times a year), Longest duration in the wilderness: a month, two week hike across the ridgeline of the Seven Sisters mountain chain in WNC and two weeks back. Sometimes go for two weeks... love Catawba Falls area.

Level of Experience: Somewhere between intermediate and advanced.

Preparedness Planning: Mostly SHTF type but hoping to buy some land to do more a homesteading type. A year worth of food and supplies readied. As well as ammo and weapons. Hoping to buy a peice of land soon to homestead.

Interests and Hobbies: Gardening, wilderness skills, urban survival preparation, knife-making, firearms, food storage, backpacking, art, cooking, homesteading, books (mostly fantasy, sci-fi, historical, survival, homesteading, gardening and non-fiction).

A short bio I used on my website and facebook:

They found me under a leaf in the mountains of North Carolina on the 14th of October, 1967 and I was reared on a diet of comic books, movies beyond my wildest imaginings and the natural wonders of the wilder , so as you can see I never had a chance.

As soon as I was able to hold a pencil, I began to illustrate and visualize the world around and within me. I have been at it ever since and incidently I think practice like this is the only way to acquire a powerful and effective visual language in illustration. I've done it for 15 years professionally and there's a lot of room for improvement yet. Nothing has daunted my ambition since a toddler to take a blank piece of paper and conceptualize a illustration out of nothing.

Most of the time with raw talent, this went on for years and years. Until I met Jan Alms, Head of the Commercial Art department at McDowell Tech and Butch Guice with whom I was an assitant for two years. It was then I succumbed to comic art and illustration. A whole new medium was opened out before my admiring gaze and the urge to soak it all in to create my own was irresistible as well as fun.

Though I have to say, my greatest creation was my son, Mike. He is now 19 and in college and I could not have asked for a better son. He is too much like me and that is what scares me, LoL.

About me, aside from my art and design, there's very little to say and as much as I like to talk about myself all I can think of to offer is the information that I love chocolate, sweet ice tea, survivalism, hunting, camping and ancient history, movies and the writings of Tolkien, Howard, Lamb and Lovecraft. I despise asparasus and comb-overs. I also sign my artwork Miko, which sometimes is a nickname. And that seems to cover the subject pretty thoroughly.

My ancestory: I am a mutt per say... I have Cherokee, Commanche, Dutch, Irish and Mongolian/Polish blood running through my veins and perhaps more than my cousin Joseph has found in our ancient tree. I am glad I am just who I am...no race... no creed. Just me... An American...Born in the mountains of North Carolina.

    Welcome to WSF.

I grew up in West Asheville and know your area a bit.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
