Not braintanned leather, just made with a commercially tanned moose hide but I love 'em anyway! Lots lighter than winterboots and warmer too (with army wool liners).

Good looking mukluks. Did you design your own pattern?
SWEET! Those are way, way too cool! Great job!

Dang, lady. Those are outstanding. Even the moose would agree if he saw those.

They look extremely light weight, do you use a water repellent? Very comfortable I'm sure. Very nice job.
They look like you bought them. Great job.
I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

They are lightweight compared to boots, but my boyfriend has a pair out of brain and smoketanned leather, and those are even lighter.
I don't use a water repellant on them, so I just wear them when it's cold and not out on the lake where there might be overflow. They are superwarm, no problem in the -30s at all, because your foot gets to move around a lot in there since there are no laces except around the leg.
The pattern I used for cutting out the leather pieces is from a booklet, so I don't want to post those instructions because of the copyright. They're fairly easy to make though - basically, just take a pattern for mocassins and add the leg part

These guys are happy to provide a pattern and instructions. They are not from the far north but the design principles are close.

If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?
Great job. Very nice looking. How is the traction when walking on snow?
Those are gorgeous! Great work! any chance of sharing the details with us? I like the way you did your seams. They look really neat! I really love the beadwork on the toes, too. Keep it up, those are spectacular!
Very nice! I'd like to make a pair myself.
I glued a crepe rubber sole underneath, otherwise going uphill and downhill on packed trails gets a bit too interesting.
All the seams are fortified with an extra strip of leather and the heel ends in a little upturned tab - I like that because you don't end up scuffing the seams so much as you walk. I was a bit worried the beading might be a bother in snowshoes bindings but over the course of three winters, I haven't had a problem with it.

Very nice workmanship WW,and you have used them how many winters and they still show almost no wear and tear!
BEAUTIFUL!
