For Thanksgiving- fresh killed turkey. From the farm up the street.
Cranberry sauce. Stuffing. More squash.

Though I did win a frozen one today at a target shoot. Cost me $10 though.
$5 for the turkey and $5 for the opportunity to try out a .500 S&W revolver.

Being a lonely widower, folks feel sorry for me.

I got 6 different invites for Turkey Day.

I figure if I time it right I can get to 4 of them!

Going to wife's sisters for thanksgiving. Turkey, dressing, all that stuff.

Wife is making cheesy potatoe cassarole.

I'm making homemeade Pecan, chocolate cream cheese, and peanut butter pies.

I floated the idea of having rice and beans for Thanksgiving - just to be thankful that we do not have to eat rice and beans every day.

We're committing sacrilege this year. I've nagged my wife for the last several years to stop making such a fuss at Thanksgiving and quite cooking large meals. She finally gave in so we are buying dinner this year.

The day after Thanksgiving in 2000 my mother suffered a stroke after having cooked a monster meal. Maybe it would have happened anyway but I put the blame on all the hard work and stress. My wife's no where near the age my mom was but I don't want to take any chances either. Since the kids are all hitting in-laws houses before coming here it kind of eliminates a pitch in meal.

Having a big traditional extravaganza in our place.
Family flying in out of state for the yearly Thanksgiving pilgrimage to the big apple, and yours truly has become the alpha cook. (taking the week off)
The only time of the year when meat is not an issue. Favorite family recipes all fixed, whether they go together or not.

*Mesquite smoked roasted turkey. (the only thing I'm buying since I can't smoke it in my apt.)
*Spicy stuffing with sausage roasted habaneros & shiitake mushrooms.
*Good ol' traditional green bean casserole. (the covered dish grandma used to take to Wed. night fellowships)
*Spoon corn bread with feta cheese and calamata olives baked in.
*Sweet potato moussaka with crispy marshmallows on top.
*Lima beans with ham.
* Chunky cranberry relish with walnuts & orange zest
* Thick, spicy gravy with minced chicken livers.

*Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, baked apples in bourbon.
Vanilla ice cream.

Lots of libations throughout.

Sadly for me, I am committed to the annual feast for boring, dry foods at GF's aunt and uncle's.

This year, however, we decided to help solve the problem, by offering to bring a few dishes of our own. Usually, we just bring the deviled eggs. This time, we are also bring cornbread dressing and honey-glazed roasted carrots and turnips.

With any luck, a roasted squash too. But it looks like it won't be ripe in time. Maybe Christmas, which we are hosting this year.
