Boots in the Field Journal – Volume 3
Today was a day away from the dogs. Montana has been having an unbelievably warm Fall, so we had a rare November family outing…we went canoeing! We put our favorite canoe, the Nova Craft Prospector on the truck and headed to our favorite secret lake, and paddled over to our friend’s fish camp to check on it. It was awesome!

The Prospector canoe, is a classic design. Legendary Canadian canoeing icon, Bill Mason really popularized this design in his books and video series “Path of the Paddle”. Although Mason preferred his canoes to be wood and canvas in materials, ours is more practical rotomolded plastic.

We saw a bald eagle in the distance, and then paddled right under it when it landed in a tree

It was a wonderful day, my two year old son, and wife had a blast. We were out for about 4 hours, and our son never got bored or restless even for a minute- (although he did get a little tired)

which is saying a lot for a toddler! I look forward to having many more fun days with him on the water in the future……

Fantastic pics Dogman. Looks like a great day. Your son is growing up so fast - it seems like just yesterday that he made his Grand Entrance

What a great looking family and what a great place to be outdoors. That little guy sure is a cutey. Cudo's to you for the life vests!! Not only do you reinforce their use with those of us here on the forum but you're training your son how to stay safe. It won't take long and he'll feel naked without one when on the water.

Thanks for taking us with you and sharing your day.

Yep, he is really growing up fast. he just turned two last month! He can run, jump, climb and spaz out for hours on end. He can say just about anything, and is putting together nice little sentences. He keeps us laughing most of the time, because he has incredibly good natured and always is doing something very whacky. He loves the outdoors, wildlife and dogs- so he is fitting in pretty well around here.

thanks for the kudos...and, he already goes for his life-jacket before heading to a canoe or raft. In fact he will sometimes carry his life jacket around the house (even at 6am) and say "go canoe the boat"...which always makes his mom and I laugh....it makes me laugh, because I am happy he likes to be on the water...it makes my wife laugh that he uses "canoe" as a verb...lol...

Setting the boy on a life of outdoor adventure is great stuff Dogman.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
