Thread: Yucca?

  1. #1

    Default Yucca?

I haven't seen what I can be sure is Yucca since joining here.

Here are some photos of stuff that is close or even a maybe. Can anyone help identify the plants in these photos?

This is the one I think maybe yucca. It has sea oats in the foreground and sea grapes in the background.

This plant had a stem like yucca. But, yellow flowers and the plant just isn't right.

Then this one seen roadside in some grape vines and on Jensen Beach in a seagrape forest.

The top pic, I would say are both yucca.
The second plant is a century plant, agave species. One bloomed in a town nearby this year and it was about 30 feet tall. people came from all over to see it, including us!
The last one I would guess is some type of lily, but not real sure.

I would say that none of them are Yucca as we know but they are Agave's. Yucca (Bear Grass) doesn't have those weird blooms on the stalks. The 1st pic is more correct

He says the raw petals give him a tummyache. I have not had this problem and rather like the flavor of the raw petals.
While your top pic is not yucca filamentosa, I'm confident it is one of the several species of yucca.
Just passing it along.. I was checking out more of GD's vids and came across that one.

I was able to see a Cassava (Yuca) plant last weekend. We went to ranch in Arcadia, FL and she had some growing in the yard. Her neighbors thought it was marijuana because the leaves are simular.

Yuca and yucca are definetly unrelated.
