Either one should be pretty good considering the price. Go with the one you feel right about!

I paid $90 or $95 at a gun show for my 5 when they still were Ontario. They seem a little higher now.

How do you like it.........from the point of view of it's being a tool as opposed to a piece of knife art......? Do you think the 1/4" stock is too thick for field kitchen use (slice cheese, slice canned ham, etc.)........?

I like it. It has a nice grind on it. Well suited for slicing and skinning, but robust enough for heavy chores.

I have the RAT 7 and I don't have any complaints with it. It's my work horse and it's done everything I've asked of it. It holds an edge pretty well, too.

$120 is way too much. Try these folks. If this doesn't work for you, let me know.

    That's a good price Rick.

Sourdough - let me grab it and snap a couple of pics. Yes to the flat grind and handle length is very comfortable. The newer ones (with the ESEE stamp) also have a little divot in the handle so that you can use it as a bearing block for the spindle of your bow drill. Not sure if they are doing that on other sizes as well.

Looks like I need to clean it up a bit (sits in storage bin in truck). Also, it is not 1/4" thick, but rather 3/16".

If it's a 1/4" thick blade you want in about that same size - I've got the Becker BK2 (now owned by K-Bar). They run in the $55 range.

The Necker comes with the Becker 9" Combat Bosie in a small sheath attached to the large one. A-Tough, you been here long enough to know better than to bring up a knife question on this forum!

Actually the Becker Necker is the BK11. You are thinking about the BK13 which is very similar in style. The BK13 is smaller, different steel, and they might still be produced elsewhere than the US. I'm thinking China.
