    Default Alaska blueberry picking.

Finally after 2 summers of looking and the wife hounding me to death we found them. Might have helped if we knew what we were looking for ahead of time, but nevertheless we got some. Stopped at 4 different locations but was limited with having the baby. The good spots were too far away, too far up the mountain or on the other side of the river. Decided to take a chance on a very easy spot right off the road and had success. I figured it would have been picked clean already but I was wrong. Got about 2 cups which I think is pretty good for our first time.

Did some hiking too. Opted for the camelbak survival kit today instead of my messenger bag. Glad I did it worked out perfectly and was able to carry everything I normally would.

Now that is some country, however, just one thing wrong with it..... too many lumps. I come from the Fens where a molehill IS considered a mountain

Looks beautiful, but I know my head would pop due lack of forest...
Survival is not about surviving AGAINST the nature. It's about surviving WITH the nature.

You can't go in to nature, nature is not a place or an object. Nature just is. You are living it.

Two cups is great for wild blueberries. My first job was picking cultivated blueberries, the big juicy kind in taller bushes, in South Jersey for .02 per pint. My mother figured out my "one for them, two for me" technique when I'd come home with a purple tongue. Oh for those days running around the cedar swamps.

    Nice country.

Are you above the tree line or what?
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

blueberries need acidic soil to grow, typically that means a pine forest, we live here in the blueberry capital of the world,i often take for granted how easy it is to find them, can't get your pics but i'm glad you had fun

Yup above the timberline. The picknic area we were at was 3,400' but the spot where the bluberries were was around 2,200'. We had to drive up and over the mountain near summit lake which is 3,800' Some of the ridges are spiking over 5,000' though. We have explored up there 3 years in a row now and still can't believe the beauty of it.
