I'll bet it misses New Orleans this time.

My girl and I watched the Dateline version last night. Her brother lives in NOLA and evac'd here for a year.
After the show I asked her if she understood a little more why I feel the need to be self-reliant. She kinda looked at me funny and then I explained that if something like this happened again, I didn't want to be waiting around for someone to rescue me and mine. That's when the light bulb went on for her, I think!

CT: You are absolutely right!!! I was a FL panhandle county EM Director including the 2004 hurricane season (Ivan ground zero). I was fortunate that I was in a mostly rural county and most folks were self-reliant country folk. "We don't need no help from you gubmint people"; the difference between there and NOLA.

I remember. I was smack in the middle of Andrew (literally) and I can still hear the helicopters over my house (or what was left of it). Army and National Guard everywhere. Mainly to keep the looters under control. The crime was so bad, they even robbed the Florida Power and Light and Georgia Power and Light guys from their sandwiches.
