Hello all,
I'm hailing from Los Angeles currently but don't let the hollywood sign fool you, I see coyotes on morning hikes with my dog and am just a short drive from mountains filled with canines, felines, and ursidae. I grew up a midwest backyard forest kid building forts and bows n arrows, plucking catfish and avoiding bobcats and possums.
Being creative and into sports and the outdoors eventually led me to the army rangers to get my head on straight and learn how to be all that i could be, which is never ending learning as I'm finding out the older i get.
At 38 years old I've managed to live all over the states from surviving on $5/week during art school in chicago to having a great job a fancy filled backpack and more trails than i knew what to do with in the appalachian and smokey mountains of north carolina before work led me to the habitat encroaching cement block of los angeles.
I've had a good share of technical as well as self learned outdoors training along with all the books and tv shows i can get my hands on, but nothing beats rolling up my sleeves and trying some things first hand.
I've been in various outdoor climates, jungles, deserts, forests, tundras, dumpsters and living rooms in high altitudes and the lower ones... with all the gear from the magazines or just my wits ~ but i still consider myself a novice of the world of survival with a lot yet to learn.
I try and prepare the best that I can but like most, I live paycheck to paycheck so I'm mainly prepared to be self sufficient and yet help the community where I can with skills, a smile, and two open hands.
My wife and I read and draw a lot, container garden between apartment buildings, hike all the time and backpack when we get a chance, enjoy ashtanga yoga daily (its addictive), take a shot at the range now and then, can cook from scratch, can build things and improvise and adapt when we need to as we continue to learn, have fun with it all, and enjoy pizza and a cold one on the weekend.
I hope to contribute to the boards where I can.
...and i can be wordy at times, lol.
~Chad
