Default A question for Winnie or anyone else on the other side of the pond.

What are kippers? I heard someone talking about eating kippers and have been wondering what they were.

Smoked herring if you please. And yes, they are quite tasty!!! Fix a salad, toss on some kippers, add a cracker or two and I'm in heaven.

I like to just open the can, get a pack of soda crackers, then eat them.

Sorta like a dry sardine, but larger slabs.

(Oh man, might have to just go get a can and some crackers, y'all are making crave some.....)

You've never asked how old the pizza is that's laying on the table have you?

    "Dude, how old's this pizza?"
"I don't know. The cat ate some of it a couple of days ago and lived."
    "Cool. Thanks."

OUT OF THE CAN??!? That's just down right wrong.

To answer your question Swamprat, a Kipper is a Herring that has been cleaned opened lenthways then smoked over oak chippings. They are one of the finest eatings known to man. Craister Kippers are the best. The flesh is wonderfully plump, soft and smoky.
NOTE: Do not listen to the heathens here, buy a fresh Kipper, lightly poach it for 3-4 minutes and leave the tins for emergencies!

I don't see anything wrong with Kippers for breakfast, fresh, poached Kippers and wholemeal toast are a great way to start your day
