Where is the best place in the USA to do a Les Stroud and D*ck Proenneke??

Anyways I'm looking for a place in the USA to get away from it all and live long term, like for years and years. Just like Les Stroud "Snowshoes And Solitude" and D*ck Proenneke "Alone In The Wilderness". At first I was thinking of trying one of my local forests like the Cleveland NF, San Bernardino NF, or Angeles NF but there way too crowded with people and forest rangers. I would probably get found out quick. So I'm looking for a place with abundant wildlife, good fishing, good water supply. It would be nice if it was on a big huge lake or river. I could build myself a canoe. I want to go there with a tent, sleeping bag, your usual camping gear, and of course some food supplies at first. Then build myself a cabin, and start hunting and fishing. Anyone know of any place in the USA that would be perfect for this without getting caught by the authorities? Thanks

So the question is: Where can I go to avoid authorities, and live for free?

Short answer, not much out there that is liviable, that is not owned, controled or used.

Sadly, that seems to be a dream of a lot of people, but if that's what you want to do, usally means working, getting some money, buying a place, and doing what ever you what, that you can afford and is legal.
