I'm not sure I've always used peanut butter, I suggest watching there eating habbits and see what there munching on then try that as your bait, but I don't see them trucking down a tree to eat something that is available to them in the tree tops.

Ryleyboy, in case you didn't know, we have a Forum policy that strictly prohibits any discussion of hunting, trapping, harming, or eating squirrels.

Therefore, I'm requesting that the Moderators delete this thread.

Oh, sure! The best bait to lure squirrels is a perfectly aged (28 days) 24 oz. Porterhouse steak. However, it's only good for a single use and should be replaced with a new steak every hour.

Try that method for 48 hours and let me know how you make out.

By the way, that info is for those of you who like to photograph and watch squirrels without interfering with them in any way. Remember, Forum policy strictly prohibits any discussion of hunting, trapping, harming, or eating squirrels.

they stole all our hickory nuts out of our camp. we gathered the nuts from the area. they also chewed through a friends plastic garbage can to get to there wall nuts that grew in the area. we tried a hickory nut in a trap and got a chipmunk but im sure a squirrel would have gotten to it if the chipmunk didnt.
    Come share my fire.

Ryley, squirrels will eat whatever happens to be in season or whatever they've stored away.

In the spring, squirrels will eat leaf buds and seeds. It's harder to get them to come down on the ground because there is so much food for them in the tree tops. They will even eat baby birds as they begin to hatch.

Summer into fall they go for fungi, leaves and any seeds that are developing.

I think you'd be money ahead to try a squirrel pole or snare if you are intent on catching a squirrel. Squirrels are actually very intelligent and catching one with a deadfall would be hit or miss (pun intended) at best.

Rick? Don't you think you should tell him that squirrel meat is poisonous?

Sometimes it's best to find out the hard way. Fried or baked.

    I'm with Ken.
Move on from the squirrels. I'm sure there's a buffet going on at the Golden Corral.
