    Default Stone Stuff

    I didn't post this in the knapping thread because this isn't my stuff. I was at a customers house today and snapped a few pics. Same customer that I've posted pics of knapping stuff before. I haven't even scratched the surface of his collection. He wasn't there today for me to ask questions, but I believe that these were all found pieces (not 100% sure - I'll ask next time I see him).

    There are a few I'd say are recent. some of them are just too dang good of shape to be found (at least for around here).
    Either way, that stuff is amazing. I'm particularly interested in the type of stone used for the hawk heads.
    I wonder about the swirly stone too. I wonder if it was a grinder or pecking stone, or hammerstone, since it's broken.

    Thanks for posting, always get a kick out of this stuff.
    Some fine pieces there, workmanship is fantastic.

    Gotta have a pretty big piece to start with for some of those........WOW.

    #3 is nice. i love to see ground stuff. i keep meaning to put more time into ground tools, but i don't get as much free time as i used to [thank goodness].

    the celt heads, or what ever you might call them look to be the sort of basalt i have in mind for such projects. i've even found a few pieces of it slightly knappable.
