Default Advice on a gun safe

I have a large penny collection and like to stack them when they are stored. I reckon I need another gun safe to handle the change. Anyone want to recommend one around $800 or hopefully under that. I expect if it was used for long guns it would need space for 12 plus plenty of room for my stamp collection and maybe a few pins on the inside of the door to hang my crocheted scarfs. Best I can find is one at Lowes. Anyone got a better one in mind??

Could we, uh, get a video of those crocheted scarves? I would imagine you boys in WV probably make them a bit different than we do 'round here.

I've seen that one at Lowes. Not impressed. At least not with the one here.
There's a sporting goods store here called Dicks that sells some good ones. Ones with nice mechanical locks rather than battery electronic. Just in case you need to get to your knitting in a reliable fashion rather than hunt for a key you put somewhere.

If a guy member from NYC posted that, we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Yep, NYC is the first place I cried leaning on a urinal. I do have an itty bitty 45 that follows me around so if I take my crocheting seriously nobody laughs much. That was back before your were around. I personally do a lot of crocheting and penny collecting and having filled up a couple of safes with my treasures I do need another and don't have much of a selection except to order one. Now if I could order one from NYC with your mayor inside it I would consider. Thanks for the tip on the one at Lowes will check the other out and skip that one.

Can't do that, the quality would make somebody's ole granny cry at her lack of talent compared to these. I guess I will drive up to Dicks and see if they deliver and check theirs out. I just might need some help getting it into my bunker, I mean hobby room in the basement.

I second the comment about safes from Dick's Sporting Goods. the one in our twon carries several quality units around the price you are quoting.

You can order on line and they will ship too.

Strangely enough, Wall-Mart carries the same brands.

I bought a Stack-On unit back in the Spring. I have been happy with it. It shrunk after I installed it.

It is the copper in the pennies that causes the safes to shrink.

Hey Coot - Looks like Gander Mountain has a sale on their Stack On 14 gun security cabinet. It's on sale for $149. I don't know if that will work or if you want an actual safe but the cabinet passes California's DOJ requirements. The sale is on until 7-17.

Thanks Rick, I do need a safe. Stacking pennies and sore fingers from crocheting demand a safe to make them secure from jealous ole ladies.

since I'm a hands on type fella I built my gun safe. the credit union in my local town relocated and the fella that bought their building sold the old safe door to me for 150 dollars. other than the mail level my house has two levels, a basement and a crawl space. I built a 10 foot by 10 foot concrete room underneath the crawl space and used the door as access from the basement side. my safe has a concrete floor, ceiling and walls with a combination lock door. there is enough room in there to store lots of stuff. I refer to it as my root cellar. I have a dehumidifier in there to. any ways that's what I did for a safe.

Now, if anyone has the combination please email it to him. He's been stuck in there for 14 months.

Cool job, randy. That should be pretty secure.

thanks Rick, actually my father redid the combination so it was the same as his gun safe. that came in handy although it didn't feel good when the day came for me to open his safe.

I always get concerned when some guy says,"Oh yeah, let me show you," and there is a torch next to the entrance. That scorpion guy doesn't live in there does he?
