I had a little bit of peaches on 2 of four year old peach trees and picked 3 gallons this morning. We just finished peeling them, treating them with fruit fresh and putting them in quart freezer bags. I ended up with 7 quarts of peaches in the freezer and a quart for supper tonight. I can't wait until all 6 trees start producing and I can really stockpile peaches.

I am saving the pits and will plant them in pots to try and get more trees to add to my mini orchard. That is the way we got these trees and hopefully it will work again.

I have been working on some minor house repairs. I grew up in a family where my dad worked hard (and was successful), but he was all for outsourcing things like plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc. My wife and I, however, like trying to figure things out. This weekend, I replaced the piping that led to the ice maker in the freezer, as well as repairing the tank in the toilet. One of the thing-a-mi-jiggies got kinked, so I was able to cut it and insert the whatchamacallit back in the hose. Now, the tank will refill after the toilet is flushed.

Lots of yard work, took out some bamboo, and trying to crate train a mini-dachshund.

This is June Bug (or Juni) - she likes to play, and was inspecting my kayak gear I sold on Craigslist.

Cute dog. You may be trying to crate train her, but I'll bet she already has the rest of the family trained.

What a busy summer! Here's my update:
    1) got the girl off to college YIPPEE!
    2) took 2 youngest out past Coeur Dalene for a week of camping sans running water
    3) youngest daughter finished hunter's ed and out-shot most of the boys at the shooting range
    4) taught youngest daughter to weld (had to fix her own trampoline)
    5) almost done with the treehouse

First, cudo's on the skills you are giving your daughters. Everyone should go through your class. Much, much better prepared young ladies to take on life.

Second, cudo's on the tree house. When it's done can I move in?

All I wanted was a simple treehouse, but no, he has to go and draw up plans for a fortress! I asked him if I should put a mini-fridge, microwave, and futon in it (maybe a porta-potty, too) lol

oh, and the arch above the ladder will be the anchor for a zip-line when we're done

We bought a new place, our first, in April.

That said, been working on it. Our water system (15k gal) needs work and a filter setup.

Trying to get the chickens setup.

Tried making cheese. It ended up cheese but the mold it adopted was a wood mold which made it taste terrible. I shoulda ate it as curds.

I get out in the bush easily since I'm 100 yards from the ocean and 50 yards from the bush.

@ Mountain Mama - excellent. I lived in places not as nice as that tree house.

@ Winter - I see the Guard Pug is on duty.

Can you give some particulars on the water catch system? Those look like road culverts. Did you weld a bottom in? Any kind of liner? Do they have a pump? So many questions......

Yeah, Rick, they are pretty standard rain catchment cisterns. They have a welded in bottom.

I do need liners but I'm too broke at the moment.

I have a pump and pressure tank.

If they are full enough, you'll get running water with the pump off and the pressure tank empty.

We have had the driest summer ever. I think it's a genuine record so i'm not even showering. I bathe in the ocean so I smell like Long John Silvers.
