    Default The Heroes Project

I have and am very vocal when it comes to the sometimes plastic nature of celebrities. However, I just saw a news story about The Heroes Project . It is a program to help disabled veterans to regain confidence. The man with the original idea is Tim Medvetz. The project co founder is none other than Cher!. I did some reading about her philanthropic activities and I thought I would share them. It turns out that she is quite the lady when it comes to supporting the troops. And she is not very public with this support, not wanting to over shadow the activities of the foundation. It is nice to share some good news

    http://www.theheroesproject.org/board.cfm

"Cher has been a vocal supporter of American soldiers and returning veterans. She has contributed to Operation Helmet, an organization that provides free helmet upgrade kits to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cher has also supported the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which serves military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and those severely injured in other operations. Most recently, Cher and her foundation has helped co-found The Heroes Project with her long time friend Tim Medvetz, an organization dedicated to supporting and empowering veterans and wounded warriors through direct service, community support, and advocacy efforts."

Good stuff, Pal. Along the same lines is another worthy organization that builds specially equipped homes for vets that have sustain debilitating injuries. It's called Homes for Our Troops.

A similar charity has been set up here called Help for Heroes. (Although Cher had nothing to do with this one)

    Good for her.
Is that the same Tim Medvetz that was on the Everest -Beyond the Limit program on the Discovery Channel?

Pal, there are only 4 charities I give to on a regular basis, this is the latest one to go on the list. The others being the Royal British Legion, RAF Association and the Lifeboat Institution.(notice a theme here?)

What I find so very disappointing, and I've no doubt everyone here does too, is that these charities have to exist at all. Armed Forces personnel are put in harms way but the casualties have to rely on private charities to help them in even the most basic of care. I won't cast aspertions as to who is to blame for fear of getting political, but I think we all know who.

Yes we do. And I guess it is like that world wide unfortunately. At least our (yours and ours) military have some care when they are injuried, many countries just cast them aside
