    Default 10 minute knife

i must ask that all expert knife makers look away. veiwing the below pictures may cause serious injury or death do to extreme laughter or pity. you have been warned,

this knife took me ten minutes to make. it is an old ppocket knife blade that i grinded the bcak into a dip and sharpened that back (not the dip). then i cut a peice of wood from an old project and used a saw to cut a notch in wood at the top. then i pu a nail through it. i pulled the nail out and slid the blade into the notch. since it was in a pocket knife it had a small hole on the base of the blade. i put the nail thorugh that (this keeping the blade on the wood) and grinded away the nail. i then put two small peices of wood into the remaning space of the notch. i then put electric tape around the meeting place . . . alot of tape : /
taped down the handle just for cover and there is my horrible knife.

Yep, I have to agree with you.

    That's pretty bad.

    BUT

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. And you need to know how to make it work.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

    That's a shiv, that is!

Maybe it's not pretty, but it looks functional enough.

One step at a time, Smitty. You gotta start somewhere. Now you can take the things you learned from that knife and put them into the next and so on. Hey, I aint pretty but I work...sometimes.

Great way to improvise with what you have on hand. It may not be pretty, but if it does the job then who cares. When you are in survival mode you sometimes have to think outside the box. Here is one that I did just to try it out. I beat this out a 5.56 casing and sharpened it on a rock. I was then able to cut through a couple of pieces of 1/2" tubular nylon. Not the most efficient, but if it was all I had, I know it works.

The knife is O.K. ... If it works for you...

As my DI used to say..."put a shirt on that nasty body".

My DI never said that. He often said "I'm gonna rip off your head and **** down your wind pipe" though.

yea it worked for a little while until i tryed to cut to deep into a peice of wood. the tape gave when i tryed to pool out, split the wood, and bent the blade where i altered it. too me hours with the hammer to flatten it back out. i love the design of that blade too much to let it die.

i've got a couple of fb knives salvaged from broken folders. they'll never win any beauty contests, but they work.
