    Default Native American Fish Trap

Hey guys, I've got a question about native american fish traps and I was wondering if you could help me.

inspired by this video (I think this is so awesome) http://www.metacafe.com/watch/289945...can_fish_trap/

In about a month I'm going on a camping trip to a friend's property in Missouri on the Meramec river. I'm going to set a couple of these up, but I'm not familiar with river fish (or river fishing in general). Where on the river should I set these up? What kind of formations or other things should I look for? What kind of bait should I use? I'm primarily interested in catching catfish, but I'm not picky

I'm familiar with how to clean and cook catfish by skinning & filleting but I'm totally down to try new ways.

here is a link to meramec's website http://www.mostateparks.com/meramec/misc.htm

any knowledge you can pass on is appreciated!

First, you need a Mo fishing license. Resident if you live there, out of state if you don't live there. Then you need to know if Mo allows fish traps. If they do you need to know what kind. You can't just go tossing traps out. You have to follow the state's mandates. By the way, they are illegal in the water or on banks. See page 8 in the second link.

I would set it near some reeds, rocks or logs, not just on a blank empty bank of the river. Fish love objects or plant matter to interact with, so if its really close to those things then you will have a better chance of them checking it out.
