    Default Crooked knife

I decided I needed a better crooked knife than my converted hoof knife.

I looked around a lot before deciding on a Haida Knife from Lee Valley Tool.

I bought the #8 blank and no handle as I like a fat handle and they only offer thin ones. It arrived yesterday so after dinner I did a bit of work on a handle for it.

This blade is very nice and sharp as heck. Just holding it with my fingers I could remove material.

Here is the Knife and packaging:

I started with an ash garden tool handle:

I cut the end off that and then ran it through the table saw as I really wanted it perfectly flat, taking about 1/4 of the thickness away:

Then I laid out the blade on it and marked it for chiseling out a spot so the blade would be flush:

    Ahhh... Icy cold Pilsner.

I then sliced the edges with a sloyd knife and started gently chiseling out the recessed spot:

Spent an hour getting this right, and after many fits I think it's about good:

I then sanded off the varnish and rounded the edges.

Tonight I will sand it more, thinning around the base a bit with a spokeshave, drill for the nice brass rivets it came with, and then rivet it in.

Is that thing sharp on both sides? That could sneak up on you. You have plans for a sheath?

Epic picture post fail... those were supposed to be 640x480...

Yup it is sharp on both sides, very sharp I will always keep that in mind.

Lee Valley has a lot of nice stuff and I have spent some dough there over the years... Everything I ever bought there was the highest quality.

It's a carving knife for concave surfaces such as cups, bowls, etc. Totally screwed up the brass rivets tonight and am going to have to cut one out in the AM and start the mounting over...
