    Default BSA Hisoric Merit Badges

As a part of the 100 year anniversary of Scouting, the BSA has authorized the teaching of four historic merit badges; Carpentry, Signaling, Tracking (stalking), and Pathfinder. These badges are no longer apart of the over one hundred merit badges offered today. Much of the skills they offered are incorporated in other merit badges. Scout's can take these merit badges during 2010 only.

I will be instructing two of them this weekend; Tracking and Pathfinder. If you are interested in what the old merit badge books were like; check the links below.

Good stuff. I know you said many of the skills of these have been incorporated into other badges, but it would be nice to see them stay.

Wow, I didn't know they were doing this. I will tell my troop and see if any do it. It would be cool to have a few "different" merit badges on your sash.

I didn't make it to Eagle Scout because I got involved in Olympic Archery at 15 and that took up most of my free time in my teens. I earned my Tracker and Pathfinder badges with my forst 2 years of scouting. Do they still have Marksman Merit Badges?

I wish I was still in scouts. Those actually sound fun. I pretty much did all the fun badges already. After I reacehd fifty merit badges I lost intrest in doing anymore since they had almost no fun parts in them jsut research and paperwork.

The merit badge training went very well, the boys had a great time. We had forty-four boys in my group, and forty-eight boys at the camp south of us.

Yes, the BSA has a marksmanship merit badge. Boy Scouts are allowed to shoot .22 rifles, shotguns, and black-powder rifles. Venture Crews are allowed to shoot other rifles as well as pistols.

I was just at the scout shop picking up awards for tomorrow night and saw these 4 badges. They have a different border color and look cool. We really need to get the boys some of these this year (since they can only get them this year).
