A point of interest on the numbers indicated in the article. They do not include the number of weapons that our government has been destroying for the Former Soviet Union (FSU). For many years now, our government has been purchasing their old nukes transporting them to the U.S. and destroying them. The FSU is in such a sad economic state that they fear theft and sales of the weapons. In fact there are several storage areas in the FSU that are under the security cognizance of the US Military. The same is true of many of their naval vessels that were nuclear powered. These were literally sinking at the docks due to lack of care . So my point is, the numbers given may be accurate, but there is much more to the story than those numbers . If you have a keen interest in the subject and have some time, go to the online version of the Air Force Times and search the archives and you will see some interesting "bits and pieces" on the subject.

The logic is scary Ken.
It's a bit like saying we need 5000 more oil tankers, and to be ready to ship them half way around the world to intercept somebody else's oil tankers when we have, and can more cheaply build, far more maneuverable and practical speed boats.
i certainly agree with the rationale in maintaining a nuclear arsenal, but to a point.
there are other solutions as well. i know this, because we are a smart enough nation, which spends enough on defense to pursue many of them at once.

I am Talking about the Satellite that uses Laser Beams to shoot enemy ICBM's out of the sky, http://www.atomicarchive.com/History...r/page20.shtml
That technology exists.
Yes, Thats what I mean,, Ronald Regan's Star Wars conceived in the 80's, I believe DOES exist even though its said to have been scrapped in its early conception,, In Other words, If Its up there in Space, And can shoot down incoming ICBM's , We are still pretty safe with the whole reduction plan on the ground,,,
exactly: those technologies exist, but that is not the same as to say they are 'there yet'.
we would be equally silly to trust in a technology that is probably not fully developed, much less implemented.

Dont forget,, we only know what they Want us to know,, I think we have weapons in space right now.
Nope.............
it's two different things to feel sure that we have greater defensive technologies than are publicly disclosed, and to assume we have a given hypothetical measure in place and trust that assumption.
