Default Ticks are Out and About

    It's tick season again.

Whenever I think about ticks I think about Lyme Disease. My next door neighbor was diagnosed with Lyme 3 years ago. She believes she encountered the tick at the cabin she and her husband own in Maine. In her case, so far, the symptoms have been bad but not devastating. For others, it's much worse.

Taking a few precautions can help prevent a great day in the woods from destroying your life.

Ticks have been out for a couple of months already here. In fact, yesterday I was looking over my tent in the driveway and saw 2 climbing on top. Ticks are extremely bad in my area, more so than most others. We occasionally spread sevendust around our walkways to deter any from getting on us on our way to our vehichles.

They never go out of season down here. Even in February you can take roadkill deer that are covered in ticks, and a short rest on the pine woods floor will have them crawling all over your clothing. This time of year, I'm more worried about chiggers!

Chiggers are also called "red-bugs" by many. Here are some links.
BTW, they (chigger bites) itch like you wouldn't believe! LOL

Chiggers are Satan's way of prepping you for Hell. Personally, I can 't imagine that Hell could be worse.

I wonder if wearing a flea and tick collar around your ankles would help when you are in the bush ?

the one thing I like about ticks is that they're not the size of oh say...a black bear.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

We live in town...but have about 10 deer that keep coming from the woods behind us. We can't change this habit to save our lives. Damn deer and rabbits bring those little bitters FAR too close to the house. Can't even let my shelti outside to pee, without having to pick off ticks stuck to her hair! Front Line doesn't mean crap, if they get on one of US.

We've cut down a lot of the undergrowth around the boarder of the yard, and sadly with the population of ticks getting so out of control, it seems we will have to spray them this year. I hate to use pesticides, but man...it's BAD this year. We've been dealing with them straight through the winter this time.

I spent about two hours of my work day today in a transmission right-of-way to do some switching and picked 6 ticks off me when I got back to the truck! I have learned to tape the bottoms of my pant legs to my boots when I have to do this kind of work.

I heard that it takes 24 hours for a tick to transmit Lymes. That's why even if you treat your animals with Frontline, they tick will still latch on and be rather engorged before it dies. Guess that's a BIT of good news about finding a tick on you? If you get it SOON enough...it won't have time to get you sick...

I don't believe that is correct. Ticks are a vector of Lyme's Disease. If they have not bitten an infected animal prior to biting you the disease is not transmitted. If it has fed on an infected animal and then bites you, the disease is transmitted.

I personally use a drop or two of Frontline behind each ear and hot pink nail polish kills chiggers twice as fast as clear.

If they were, they would be easier to see, but probably that much more nasty?

Anyway, bad here as well, them little deer ticks are the worst, they don't bite, they just sorta puch them selves in, and takes for ever to heal.

I will be picking ticks off my coats for weeks after getting back.......

If possible, when walking in the woods, step down on brush rather then brush against it, helps....but not that much.
