Super post. Gave you some rep for it. The orange bag shell would also be good for signaling. Especially on snow.

Yeah, she may well have earned a place at the table and not as dinner, either.

Thank you sjj and s kitty, that was enormously helpful.
You forgot to mention that if you're sharing a sleeping bag with a survival kitty you might be able to get away with a lighter weight bag and still get all the warmth of the expedition variety.

You mentioned the mummy cut saving space that to make the warmer but this also makes them lighter. Bag fit is not overlooked by serious backpackers looking at every ounce and better bags come in different sizes. I am always concerned with design features and the same features that make Arctic bags warm make ultra light bags light because they can be made with less insulation.

Insulated flaps that fasten with Velcro seal and insulate zipper head that transfers cold.

Insulated flap runs full length of zipper inside bag to insulate it.

Double cinches around face to keep out cold.

Another insulated band around chest that can be cinched this creates another seal and more dead air space which is the principal of insulation.

Design features can save weight by making bag warmer but I also have the Sportsmans -35 bag but I also have the 3 inch foam pad and cot that go with it. The back seat of my car folds down and pad and bag fit perfectly and is enough room for me and wife to sleep and I use the cot when using my 10 man Arctic army tent. A very toasty set up but no way in hell I can ever carry it on my back. I’m very particular about what I carry and even my light bags are that much lighter by design.

Great info. On a side note SK looks like my cat. Who's nickname should be Death Wish.
