Oh, you bet. Plenty of lessons. All the stuff we've talked about. Letting folks know where you're going and your route. Survival kits. Stay with the vehicle. Make certain you have a car charger. Map! Water. And something to keep the kids interested like games.
Good reminder, Red Lake. Too bad that the young lady had to perish when just a few precautions would have saved her life.

It's a shame - and so easily preventable.
maybe a 10 x 12 orange tarp in the trunk
put it in the middle of the road in the daytime ( for planes )
and use it for shelter at night
if i was that far out in the boonies, my trunk would be stuffed 24/7

one picks for enjoyment of adding something to a meal,
and the second is the person who lives mostly on ( wild ) edibles

To be sure a kit would have made a very big difference but knowing how to use it or anything else is paramount.
Of course the two 911 calls that made it through were not properly handled or responded to.
