And equally important is the location of nuclear reactors. Remember that prevailing winds are west to east so the states to your west may well be a threat.

Can someone move Illinois for me, please?

Wonderful, Oak Ridge is close enough to be considered in my backyard.

Good point.
Well then if I'm gonna buy the farm I'll just stay put
and see a show or order in. It would be really tragic if it happened while sitting in an outhouse in the middle of nowhere.
Anchorage is a spread-out city. If the target was the International Airport, I would be just inside the Red circle. However if the target was the two massive military bases, then I would be outside, and shielded by a range of mountains.
What is interesting is that we Alaskans have always considered the Oil Pipeline storage area and shipping port at Valdez as the #1 strategic target in Alaska. And that is not even marked on that map. Which leads me to think the map is old, as in pre-pipeline, and before they moved the Nike site out of Anchorage.

The Oil Pipeline storage area and shipping port at Valdez would not necessarily be a strategic target for destruction. In the "old days", your neighbors across the Bering sea would have been more interested in having them intact so that oil could be syphoned off for their use with minimal effort. Now the military bases, as you indicated would and are still something that will draw all sorts of nasty things.
