New Research Claims Sierra Nevada Expedition Did Not Resort to Cannibalism

Take everything you thought you'd learned about the infamous Donner Party expedition of 1840 and forget it. Or at least the part where they ate each other to survive.

That's what a team of anthropologists will argue at a convention in New Mexico this week.

The researchers claim that the Donner party did not resort to cannibalism to survive the winter of 1840's. You may have learned the details in history class in school: A group of 84 people who ventured through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California hit harsh weather, were trapped, and only about half of them returned. One survivor told how the Donner party resorted to cannibalism to survive. The story stuck, despite vehement denial by many of the other survivors.

New evidence may show they were telling the truth...bones and other evidence show the Donners ate the family dog, horse, cattle and some deer.

And just think....... them Donners would have been better prepared if they had joined the Forums BEFORE taking that little trip of theirs.

You're absolutely right. One minute they're handing you a Milkbone, and next thing ya' know, you're dinner.

That right there is what happens when...

    1. You answer an add on a forum to join a group of survivalists.
    2. You go traipsing off into the wild letting the other guy carry the only knife.
    3. You don't carry a reserve package of twinkies so you can trade for the other guy's knife.

Now tell the truth. How many of you, have had to wait for a table, at a crowded restaurant, and told the hostess that your last name was Donner....Just so you could sit in the bar and here the hostess announce over the PA system "Donner party, your table is ready."???

A lot of stuff was horrible, people died all the time, from a lot of different things, the trail from east to west was built on the graves of your grand parents, be it on the trail or from the "Old country".
Always remember that, and be thankful.
