I guess it really depends on what you use the vehicle for....in our economy, most of us cant afford three or four vehicles,so let assume your gonna use this vehicle for other things as well, for instance, driving to work,fishing,hunting,camping,etc..Then you must consider the terrian you'll be driving in,weather from season to season all things must be considered.I've had all wheel drive vehicles in the past(AWD)they're great rides,go just about anywhere, and some have plenty of kit storage room.SUV's r the rage now days,4WD,monsters,but they use plenty of gas, that in my mind is a no no,because your gonna want something that will save you on gas, never know in a situation when you'll be able to fill up again. My last two vehicles have been front wheel drive chevy cavaliers.Wait, don't laugh, the cavalier is a small car,but the FWD has taken me to many a remote hunting/fishing spot,it's trunk is plenty big enough to haul what i need to survive, and the best part is it gets @32 mpg on the highway,27 mpg city.Very dependable, and like the old timex commercial used to say..it'll take a lickin' and keep on tickn'.great vehicle. But I digress,it's really gonna be a personel choice, based on what else you'll use the vehicle for, what's practicle for you.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, bruised, battered, and totally worn out, shouting "Holy crap.....what a ride!"

Well maybe you can kinda list what your looking for?
    Heard all what?
What terrains? City, back roads, off road, marsh, desert, snow and ice?

This gonna be a an everyday ride?
    Urban?
    Out back vehicle?
    How many passengers, human, animals?
    Trailer pulling capability?
    Mileage importance, Fuel type?
    BOV?
Lets fill in the blanks and we have something to start with.

All I asked was a description of a car that you would feel could take you on all terrains including ice without any problems. A car that is fuel efficient, fast, durable and has enough space for daily living items.

just say you where givin the choice to live in the wilderness but got to pick any car to take with you knowing you are travelling over all terrains what would you choose?

Ford F-250 Diesel 4X4 Crew cab Pick up, MPG, have gotten 20.2.
    I live in Wisconsin, USA,
Snow in winter, hot in summer, city driving, country driving, offroad driving.

Plenty of room for DW and I, +4 dogs, plus carry along BOB gear.
Enough pulling power for one of 5 or 6 different trailers.

I love my current truck. 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT

However if I was going to do a lot of offroading then I would either get a Jeep Wrangler again like my old one.

or if I was going to build a true "survival" vehicle than I would get a 80's model K5 Blazer, lift it 6" and put 35's on it. Get selectable lockers front and rear, put 1 ton axles under it, put a winch on it and aftermarket bumpers.

    That's a tall order...

If I was looking for a single new or slightly used vehicle to "do it all", It would probably be a jeep Rubicon. They can be picked up cheap right now too.

If you want more car-like, pick a Subaru. They go places you would be surprised, get ok milage and if you get the forrester, hold a ton of stuff. Most of the other mini suvs are crap though in the dirt. The elements rav4s and such don't have the clearance and don't have well protected drive trains.

My bugout vehicle is totally different though, It's a 74 Jeep Wagoneer. Lousy milage but will go anywhere while hauling a 1/2 ton of gear. But I don't daily drive it either...

Skully - There really is no such vehicle to handle everything you've laid out. The more exotic you get to handle boulder strewn geography (you did say "all terrains") the more break points you have to contend with. Determine what you really want your vehicle to do and what price range you have to work with then you can determine what vehicle fits those two niches.

That's it. That rascal would go in just about all terrains.

Again I said the vehical you would feel most comfortable with taking over many different terrains and not to far fetched, it does not matter the price or the condition THE ONE YOU WOULD TAKE.
