Default "The Bear Whisperer" on Animal Planet

Did anybody else catch this last night? It is about a guy named Steve Searles who works with bears in the town of Mammoth Lakes, CA. He earned a reputation as a great hunter, and when bears became a problem in town, the local law enforcement called him to do something about it.

I was fairly impressed with this guy. Although he is a longtime hunter, he prefers not to use deadly force in dealing the bears. In his words "a dead bear doesn't learn anything." His tactic is to change the behavior of the bears and train them to stay out of populated areas. He uses a variety of non-leathal weapons and gadgets (rubber bullets, flash-bangs, aerosol stuff, etc.) to chase bears away from homes and restore their natural fear of man.

He seems like the kind of guy that would fit in really well on WSF.

Here are a couple links about Steve Searles and the show:

Yes, I have seen that show a couple of times,, He does seem to really care about the bears,, But,,,,,,,, So did Timothy Treadwell, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Treadwell

I hope this guy does not suffer the same fate,,

The Grizzly Man Diaries guy seemed rather unbalanced to me. Maybe even crazy. I don't get that same vibe from Searles.

All the other bears standing back and observing the corpse might get a clue tho'...just a thought.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Now if we could only figure out how to keep this bear away from people.

There seems to be alot of these bear guys around these days. There is lad who lives a 1/2 mile from me that has a pet grizzly and they just got their own TV show!

There is also another old guy in AK that has all these brown and black bears that visit his cabin and he hangs out with them. Then there is the wildlife biologist in MN that plays with wild black bears...I've seen all these guys on TV.

I think I'm going to go in the hills and lasso me a Griz, and tame him so we can get on TV!
