I don't get lost. When I don't know how to get were I am going, I sit down and relax, think about it for a while, then head out. Always works. And, like Sarge said, why would I only take 4 things? And, like Rick said, this has been hashed out a lot here. Read back some and you will see a lot of info.

    Cool Here's the deal...

Ya see dawg, it's like this; the only way anybody on a site like this is only going to take 4 things is if they get hit with a real emergency situation that requires their immediate evacuation! Then they might only grab 4 items...however, those items will be what ever they can grab at that time. There's no way to predict what those items might be. More logical/realistic with a group like this is that they have BOB's stashed everywhere and that will be what they grab! I believe in being prepared so I have packs stashed everywhere. You're question is redundant, unrealistic, & a time waster. Like Rick said, their would be many other factors to consider as well.

#2 is so you always have food. Just make sure you tie him up. He likes to run around alot. Kind of like a chicken with it's head cut off. Actually, I would just substitute Grylls for a goat. Then he would carry me around until I got hungry.

    I pass
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, bruised, battered, and totally worn out, shouting "Holy crap.....what a ride!"

But the question is...what did you pass? And was it painful? Inquiring minds want to know.

Map compass or gps would be nr.1 but i would not be lost then so i did not include them.

1.big knife- good all round tool

2.water bottle id get one which would hold atl east 1 liter maybe 1.5 half.
every 1% water lost you loose 10% of physical output or so i have heard.

3.carbohydrates keep things rolling and are hard to come by in nature
in the quantities that i would need to get back to civilization.

4.if i was stuck id want a tent a bright red or orange tent and waterproof.
i would not be stuck outside with the rain and bugs.

i have put things in here that i think would help me the most to get from A to B while being easy to spot.

In some cases it's not what you should bring as much as what you should leave behind. Preconceptions, arbitrary limitations, the word "Can't" and cityfied thinking would be four things to leave behind.

Proper clothing for the weather and climate.

    Leatherman Wave
    fire steel
    and sarge

I was thinking I would take Sarge. After gathering something to eat, It could be like dinner theater. I figure it would be interesting to challenge SARGE to perform magic with the things he found in the wild.

    Hey
Sarge how about Zombie shelf fungus with a bandana.

If you were over at the lightbrigade site the first thing on every list would be a flashlight! The yuppies are scared of the dark.

Every site plays this game in one form or another.

Do my pants count? If I have on my pants I have more than 4 survival items present. I always have my knife and my wallet carries its share of gear. Just my belt contains three. It is woven from 90 feet of 550 cord, has a welded buckle and an exacto blade sandwiched into the leather buckle fastener. Combine it with the keychain I qualify for the tinfloil hat brigade.

    Sticking to a list;

    Knife
    stainless water bottle/purification
    contractor grade 40gal, 4mil trashbag
    firestarting capability

My inquiring mind does not want to know what he had to pass. I can live without that kind of info.
