SODIS- Water purification
Just got my Nat Geo Magazine, This issue was all about water.
This is a method that is being used, and seems to be effective in a lot of third countries.
SODIS, solar disinfection
Basically filling clear water bottles, leave them in direct sun for 6 hours, on a metal roof, kills a lot of the nasties.

Not bad info there, but only rich people in third world countries can afford a roof
