Default On Star Good or bad??

I've been waiting for this to happen. A guy in Texas remotely disables a hundred cars. I have never liked the idea of onstar being able to disable your car because of potential abuse.

Well, that wasn't On-Star, but the concept is the same.

I refuse to give ANYONE, except for a few of the most trusted people in my life, control over, and in most cases even access to, my property/my person/my personal information/my whereabouts.......pretty much everything in my life.

On-Star has some great features. However, the trade-off isn't worth it IMHO. If I purchased a car with On-Star, I would remove, disable, or circumvent the system as the case may be.

Is it true that OnStar, et al, can listen to you without your knowledge?

Yeah, I read that in the paper today, as well.

Stuff like this drives me up the wall, can we be so stupid that your car has to tell you what to do.

I hear ya Hunter! Today's novelty / convenience becomes tomorrow necessity.

What the heck happened to all the Payphones?
Oh yeah, doesn't everyone own a cell?

I had to dig for this one a bit. I remembered the story but had to find it.

It's no different than telephone, really. I've listened to tens of thousands of phone calls I guess but I was prevented, by law, from disclosing anything I heard. Every single phone call you make has the potential of being monitored by someone. People think their call is private. Well, I'm here to tell you it ain't. So what's the difference? If the folks at On Star can listen in they can't disclose anything they hear.
