    Default Flea Market Finds

Spent some time at a Flea Market that I had not visited before. I may have to go back.

Two cast iron skillets - $2 each.

Coleman battery lantern - $3 since it did not have the remote.

Well used sharpening stone, in box with leather pad on outside. - $2

Sharpening stone with handle - free (with next item)

Drill in excellent shape - $9

Finally - what I thought had the potential to be a major score - Antler handled, Damascus Skinner - $10. When I got home I found that they were mass produced and available for around $30. I still like the looks of it.

It doesn't get better than that!

Back when we lived in a house in the south, I'd go to the flea market every weekend and practically furnished our place.
Now, we just don't have the room for anything. In fact, we have to get rid of some stuff.

Regarding sharpening stones, sometimes you can find a very nice stone that has been used so much it is concave and appears to be worn out. They can be ground down perfectly flat and are again good as new.
This stone is worn down so much it looks like a half pipe in a snow board competition. a stone (still in wrapper) that fits in the box perfectly.

    awesome find on the drill!
Are you thinking of modding that blade? I could see you doing some stuff with it. you gotta admit, a damascus "preform" for 10 bucks is a pretty good deal.

i recently re-dressed my stones on a sanding belt.

they are old as sin, and once cleaned up, they work great again. i didn't have to take much off to get down to where the pores are clear.

I'm Jealous. The only drill I have seen around here like that was in an antique store, They wanted about $75-$100 for it!

He said that he sold a four gear drill last week for $100. I didn't say anything, but he then looked at me and said "He was a Yankee - don't feel bad".

Is that drill one of the ones that takes the box-end bits? I scored one of those and a set of bits when I inherited grandpa's tool chest. Plus several things that are still a mystery as to what they are...

I'm going to a flea market today looking for a draw shave I can dull down for attempting a bit of brain tanning (ya, and I'll let you know if that ever happens, but looking for the tools now is a good thing.) And maybe the tarp seller will be there too. A few of mine died this winter.

I'm sure Ken would have called. Right Ken?

I didn't tell him that I'm from New Jersey originally. I didn't want him to think that a Yankee got a good deal.

    "Yankees" and their antiques...LOL!
It's gotten downright stupid up here at these fleamarkets but if the vendor is actually there and it's not some kind of Co-op place, you can usually make them see reason. I got an old hand-crank meat grinder for chopping up chum for $5 instead of the marked $40 when I told the guy what I was gonna use it for. I could have gotten a new one at Bass Pro for $39, if I'd wanted to spend the money for grinding up fish... LOL.
