    Default New Lantern

I got this lantern at an estate auction recently. I thought it would make a good decoration but I've decided to try to make it a working backup.

Iam trying to clean it up and do minor repairs but I can't figure out what the globe is made of. It has a hole it it and needs to be replaced.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to go about replacing this part. It has a sliding door that you lift to light the lantern.

    Any suggestions?

The globe seems to be made of Mica.

Oh by the way very cool lantern.

here is a link for mica sheets used in stove restoration. There are also mica sheets made as a resin laminate. I don't know what the heat resistance characteristic are.

I agree. I think that's an Coleman NL323? or an Economy Lamp 408? Either way, I agree with Karl.

You might contact this guy if it is the Coleman (those two models are very similar looking) and see if he knows where you can find the panels. That rascal can be restored to like new. Good luck.

Oh, I've used him for parts on some of my older Coleman stuff.

Oh, well. Try this site, then. The menu is at the bottom of the page. I just sit and drool looking at this one. Be sure and check out the Coleman Lamps and Hollow Wire Lighting.

    I really appriciate the help.
It will cost me more to refurbish it than it cost but that's half the fun. I only paid eight dollars for it. It's going to cost me more than that in elbow grease.

Buy you'll have a great piece of Americana that will last well beyond you and your kids. If Coleman's are taking half way decent care of they are bomb proof.

Rick, enabler, You know who you are.

The hollow wire lamps would look great in my house. I still have two existing gas light fixtures in my house. I wouldn't trust the piping. I'm taking the house back to early electric, late gas era. I have four fixtures to find and rewire.

Bleuxdog, restoring that lantern will be worth it. Great find.

Great lantern, but it doesn't look very "new" to me.

That's because it's not New to you it's "NEW" to me!
And I found that it is a Yale LZ327. Made by Coleman for Yale in the 1920's.
It is in multiple pieces and I'm trying to knock the rust off.

I think half the fun of working on stuff is finding the history on it.

If the tank is rusty you can dump some BBs inside and shake them around. They will knock the rust loose. Just make certain the tank isn't rusted through.
