Yeah, it has parallel veins and these green pods that curl into almost like a ball. It may not be a native to Florida. But, I did find it in South Florida.
Also, it appears to be a hardwood with an bark similar to oak and a brown core. Trees are about 30' high that I saw.

Good call Nell. From the picture in your link that looks very probably. It says its a rain forest tree, even so, it could be found in south Florida.
Is there any chance this is an ornamental planting or an escaped species?

I'll have to do some more field work but it is definitely a Acacia variation. Looks like a really usefull species that is in some cases introduced in Florida and in some cases native.
