    Default Gill over the ground

From what little I know and can tell I believe this is Gill over the ground. Can someone confirm it for me?

That's a pretty blurry picture but it appears to be.

Sorry about the pic, best I can do with cheap camera phone. Its a weed that grows very very well in my yard. I don't trust myself with plant identification yet so I figured I would ask the experts.

Gill over the ground has no look alikes that I'm aware of. If someone knows of one, chime in. There are a few ways to tell it that I look for. The first is it looks like an ivy (hence the "over the ground" name). It has a square stem that generally has some purple color in it. The leaves are fan shaped with lobed ends. The flowers are trumpet shaped. That's pretty much it and that's what the picture looks like to me.

It's in the mint family and pretty common just about everywhere. If you look around, you'll probably find purslane nearby. Both like disturbed soils so it's common to find both in the same area.

I'm thinking it's the one Rick helped me identify a little while back. Compare it to this

The stem will tell you for sure. A good picture will, too.

Thanks guys. I am 99.9% positive that it is Henbit. The site that Rick put in YCC's post verifies it. Thanks again

What about that .1% of doubt?
Can't have that with carrots and hemlock.. just sayin.

Anytime we can help my friend. I'm learning too, so I'm not an expert by a long shot. I love trying though!

Yeah, the first time you try a plant is a bit like Russian roulette. You go through the whole, "I'm sure that's what it is. I'm positive." Then you nibble just a bit so it doesn't kill you too dead.
