Divorce, and what to do with the stuff, ah yes, brings to mind a conversation that I had with DW.
So I said, "Honey if we get a divorce what gonna happen to the stuff?"
She says, "What do you mean?"
Me, "You know like the house?"
Her, "You can have, it I'll just buy a better one"
(Hummmm, feels like she been thinking about this?)
Me, "So, O.K. how about the truck?"
Her, You can have it, I want a new Caddy."
(Hummmmmm, Caddy's have never been part of the equation, wonder who she has in mind?)
Me, "So have you been think about some guy?"
Her, "No, not really."
(Hummmmm, sound like something here?)
Me, "So, honey, this guy, are you gonna take all my gear and guns?"
Her, "No, most of it's old junk that you never throw away, and besides all your guns are right handed."
(just joking, dear)

sigh, guess I should have been a little more specific for Rick's sake:
Step 1. Remove glove from hand
Step 2. Make incisions described earlier in glove, not hand.
Hope I wasn't too late with this explanation there Stumpy.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"
It's like being in shop class all over again.

You can turn your left handed gloves inside out and use them on the right hand.
Power was out for about five days here and found myself wearing an Air Force Arctic parka I bought in the early seventies. Need to replace one of the buttons and the fur around the hood is thinning out but still a great coat.

What if you turn them around?

It depends on the item. I sell my stuff sometimes BEFORE it gets too worn out. I buy most outdoor gear at wholesale or "pro deal" prices and use it for a year or two, then sell it before it gets too trashed. generally, i make on it, almost what i paid for it, then turn around and buy new stuff....some items I keep forever until I wear them out though

When ever I see gear at yard sales, etc, kinda makes me wonder what they are thinking, or what happened to the guy/gal that owned them.
I would hate/love being new to all this stuff, as I would hate/love to even think about what to make, purchase, gather, pack and carry.
I can see where advice is asked for and freely given, though just being "out there" seems to tell the tale, pretty quick. . . ."

If you have it in your gear for safety and/or survival why would you EVER sell, trade or swap any of your gear. Something you give away just might be the one thing you REALLY need in a time of crisis.
Now, I have multiples of certain things that I have given to students whom need a particular item, but if it's the only one I have, I'm keeping it for me!
That might sound selfish, but if I bought it in the first place, then I bought it for a reason. . .'for ME!'
Let me make it clear though that I have no problem helping others out that are in need, and have done so on many occasion.
Everything I have posted is pure fantasy. I have not done any of the things that I have claimed to have done in my posts. I actually live in Detroit.
I'm one of those guys who tends to sell something to get something better, or better suited to my current enviroment. We have been moving around a bit the past 10 years, so I went from a desert enviroment to Alaska and upgraded and switched out gear.
Moving around is also a reason to not have to much stuff which weighs you down. It's expensive to store and then you worry about it's condition and security. I like having a few of the best quality I can afford rather than a bunch of mediocre stuff to lug around.
This has been a recent way of doing things, I used to keep everything, but have since gone lean and mean.
