    Default Gout -remedies?

    Anyone have gout?
If so what is your remedy?
Been sorta down with it again for a week or so, crops up a couple of times a year.
I have found the cherries do help, as well as avoiding a Whole bunch of stuff.
Meds from Dr. are all pretty much a diuretic, make ya drink a lot of water and of course, flush out the kidneys.

    Any other ideas?

You have my empathy. I don't have gout but I do have Arthur living with me. A diuretic can cause gout. It's caused by a uric acid build up in the joints so you want to control that. I assume you've been diagnosed with hyperuricemia or high uric acid in your blood?

I hate to say it but no alcohol. Cut back on the sugar and meat, too. Just send the alcohol and bacon to me. I'll dispose of it properly for you.

I not much of a sugar eater, but a lot's in foods also, so yeah careful.
As far a alcohol goes, sadly none of that, either.
Seems mine gets triggered by nuts and shell fish.
On the list of no, no's is:
    organ meats
    any red meats
    fish
    chicken
    pork
    beans
    peas
    lentils
    spinach
    beer, wine, alcohol
    and a lots of others.
Yeah, been Dr'ing for a quite a few years now, doesn't seem to be any one thing.
Meds are hard on the stomach lining.
Just thought maybe some one out there has come up with a natural remedy, that I haven't heard of yet.

Googling "gout remedies" returns a lot of results. Having never been afflicted with it, I have no experience with any of them.

Gout was the only thing I got from the Adkin's diet (all meat, cheese and eggs). Got prescrption pills and they worked; don't remember what.

My son is 34 years old and has been getting gout in both feet for over 4 years now. When he eats any kind of pork is when he has the worst attacks. His feet swell so big and the pain is so bad he has to go up and down the stairs on his knees and can't even stand for the sheets on his bed to touch his feet. a year ago he got on a strick diet, no pork, no fats. While on the diet he didn't have a flare up. Another thing he has found that causes flare up is standing a lot, climbing, and wearing any kind of shoes that has a heel on them like work shoes.
I read in a news letter that I get that if when you have a flare up if you will put one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink it,the soda clears up the attack,"careful if you have high blood pressure" also that drinking pure lemon juice will help. So far I can't get my son to try these so I don't know if they really work, but if I had an attack i would try it.

Colchicine. Until 6 months ago it was like $6 for a 3 month supply. Some drug company found out that FDA had never approved it, did a test, got it approved, patented. Now, WITH insurance, 3 month supply is $120 co-pay. So now I wait until I'm crippled with a flare up, and spend 3 days in bed.

I removed it. He was a spammer from the Philippines. In the original post he said there were a lot of gout remedies. He logged on later and edited his post to include a spam link.

I was pretty sure he was a spammer when he first posted. Figured it was just a matter of time until he revealed his hand. We've had quite an influx of spammers in the last few weeks.

Gout is terrible. I can say that I backed way off on the sodas and other drinks with high-fructose corn syrup and I haven't had an attack in almost two years. Beef also seems to set it off. Once you do have it, eating cherries, taking naproxen and drinking lots of water seems to help as much as anything that I've done.

Colchicine was a deal the FDA cut with URL Pharma. They gave them exclusive rights to the drug in exchange for Pharma funding some studies. The FDA hosed the pooch on this one. The good news is Pharma only has five years left on their license. I think what they did was wholly unethical but, sadly, not illegal.

Sounds like eating healthy can only help.
All the stuff that can trigger the problem isn't good for you you anyway. And it's never fun finding that out the hard way. Thing is, you get used to not eating certain stuff because the alternative is so much more painful.

Cherry juice seems to help me. Still have not figured out what triggers mine. Looks to be a wide variety of things. To include oatmeal.

Yeah, DW and I have been eating so healthy lately that we are getting younger!
Or at least I'm getting younger.....Or at least she keeps telling me to "Grow Up".

Yeah, starting to get into that "usta-could" age.
Thanks y'all,..... the Colchicine is a new one on me, so will be looking to check it out if/when the next go around.

I had gone to a specialist, perscribed something, (gotta go look), as a maintance daily pill.........catch was I was suppose to go for blood work once a month....so she could "keep an eye on it" (got a feeling it was my wallet).....My insurance (self pay) wouldn't pay for about $800 of the monthly $1300 bill......so I don't do that any more.

There is a medicine called allopurinol that can reduce the frequency and severity of acute attacks but you have to take it every day.
