    Default Build you own Pirogue

I bought this kit, plans and the per-cut struts. (one of those 'round to'its)

Haven't built it yet as I am planning on making another set of struts, to build with, and save the other set as a template.

Seeing the thread on the dug out canoe, got me thinking.
Another option for those wanting a low cost boat.

Did the plan spec's for copper nails?

I have been thinking about one to use in the swamps here in FL for a couple years now.
The reason about the nail ? several LA swamp rats have said don't use steel nails and only brass screws.Plus a doz. other do's & dont's

I thought SS hardware would be the best.

    Built a one myself once.
pic 1. still a bit rough, but as you can see, it does float...
pic 2. a little sanding and a couple coats of paint...

    Default Not yer grampa's pirogue

It ain't no pirogue but for the financially challenged here's a fun and easy to build sailboat that can be made very inexpensively.

I built one last year and use it for fishing in the flats since it rides high in the water like a johnboat.

I met a polish lady in Hamtramck that could build some excellent pirogees.

What is the deal with old women. They build everything. We've seen some outstanding snowshoes built by old women, lace bindings, and now pirogees.

Maybe we need to find Sourdough an old woman that can build stuff. Nothing wrong with a woman that's handy.

    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

Pirogue pronounced "pee-row" according to my CA SIL.

Brass screws but only to hold till glue sets.

Also recommended to fiber glass all seams, minimum, matting and 'glass over the whole thing.
I wanted to cut out a spare set of struts before I used these.
All cuts are a about 17 degrees from what I can determine.

Got to get after this project as I'm down to 3 boats right now.

We have to pump it through the traxsilator so it comes out in English but, yeah, Our Science is Good Science.
